RPCV Legacy Program - an activity of E&E RPCVs

ROM 1962 TO 1976, and again from 1995 to 1999 more than 2,500 Peace Corps Volunteers worked in education, health, agriculture, community development and other fields in Ethiopia and Eritrea, countries that remain among the poorest in the world.
     In 2003 Ethiopia & Eritrea RPCVs established the Legacy Program to allow returned Peace Corps Volunteers from these two countries to continue their legacy of service and assistance. Specific projects were proposed by “champions” and reviewed and approved by the E&E RPCVs board of directors.    
     As of mid-December 2006 the RPCV Legacy Program has raised a total of US $55,335 for four important education and health projects in Ethiopia and Eritrea. One project has recently met its goal while three others are ongoing; see summaries and descriptions below.

Borana Student Advancement HIV/AIDS Books for 200 Communities Vocational Training for Children At Risk

BENEFIT: Increase enrollment and retention of disadvantaged students, particularly girls, in southern Ethiopia.
